‘ANKOLE WATUSI’
OIL ON CANVAS
59cm x 84cm
Growing up in small towns across South Africa, I was always surrounded by animals, each with its own unique traits. Cattle breeds vary across the continent, and one of the most striking is the Ankole-Watusi from Uganda, known for its enormous horns and distinctive appearance. Although I have never seen one up close, I find them fascinating and appreciate their historical and cultural significance. Uganda, often called the Pearl of Africa, is where these cattle originate, and I am currently working on a range of Ankole-Watusi cows. Their bold presence and impressive adaptability make them a remarkable part of Africa’s diverse livestock heritage.
